Despite fewer resources than many other school systems the size of Tuscaloosa, the city schools have made incredible strides. Tuscaloosa City Schools has successfully funded Pre-K, arts and music programs, technology and more while managing its budget carefully.  

Key Achievements of Tuscaloosa City Schools:


$500,000 funded locally for Pre-K.

Security officers in every school.

$1.1 million funding for arts and music.

Technology: most students with dedicated devices.

Summer learning: 3,000 students take part.

Teacher salaries are 3.5 percent above the state average.

Significant increases in school nurses, social workers and counselors.

Outstanding dual enrollment program.

20 AP classes are offered citywide.

107 workforce development courses offered.

Tuscaloosa City Schools have been excellent stewards of your tax money, focusing money on the classroom while cutting administrative expenses, refinancing debt and implementing other cost savings for the system.


So How Much Will It Cost Me?

If the referendum passes, it will cost the typical Tuscaloosa homeowner a little less than $20 monthly, based on a $200,000 home. The cost of doing nothing is too high to pay for our public schools.
